Ever have one of those days??

I have been in a strange mood the last several days and I am really feeling it today. Hormones? Yeah, could be but we can't blame everything on hormones (unless of course it works in our favor to do so..haha). Just kind of a in a "blah" mood. It is probably my lack of fresh air and sunshine (although there is some strange bright ball in the sky today....not quite sure what it could be). Could be that I am tired of being cold all the time. Could be that I so need to get out of this house cause its driving me nuts. Could be that on a preliminary look at my taxes it appears that Cheeky will be opening her purse shoveling out approximately $5500 to good ol' Uncle Sam again this year. Could be that I am in serious need of an oyster roast (and thanks to my good friends and neighbors in Charleston - I will be getting one in 4 weeks - woohoo!). So my friends, I am in a slump - any suggestions to bring me out?

We will miss you.....

As a kid growing up in NC one of the staples of afternoon TV was reruns of the Andy Griffith Show - with our favorite deputy - Barney. I was saddened this weekend when I heard of the death of Don Knotts. Though I didn't know him personally, and really do not even know much about the man other than his work, I still feel like a member of my family (albeit extended family) is gone. When I was very young I remember laughing out loud at his movies with Tim Conway. I am pleased that we have so much of his work available that I can those moments with my kids.

Rest in Peace Don - we will miss you.

Its SPF Time....

Today's pictorial essay:

#1 Inside your nightstand (and for the record - I did not try to clean or hide anything but there is no telling what you find if you dig around..haha)

This is the nightstand (and its not cleaned off either - I absolutely hate cleaning my room - its a childhood issue I have yet to resolve)

Inside drawer #1

Inside drawer #2

#2 My favorite book:

Now this was a hard one for me because I do enjoy reading when I can find the time. I like almost anything written by John Grisham or Stephen King but this one is just one of my favorites....

The Collected Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe

#3 My favorite Lamp: (which I have stolen from the daughter)

So there it is, a little glimpse into the world of Cheeky. Wanna play? Learn the rules and topics from Kristine at randomandodd.com

I just don't understand

OK, I need to vent a little today about the events in Cheeky's household last night. You have all heard me whine and moan about moving. Its been hard for me to leave some of the best friends I have had as an adult. This has also been hard on the teenage daughter. She has handled it well so far. But last night was just too much. See, the daughter has made a few new friends but is afraid to get too close (which is completely understandable). She has spent some time with these new so called friends and I thought things were going fine but as it turns out....I could not have been more WRONG!

These girls are just plain mean. We have all seen the news stories of how kids get online and harass and bash other kids and I thought "hmm will never happen to us" well....I was wrong again. Last evening the daughter came in my office in tears and completely upset (yes, she is a girl but she not your typical emotional little priss). She showed me what these girls are doing and saying and I was in shock. The long and short of it is one of them is having a party this Friday and the daughter is a little uncomfortable with the crowd and doesn't want to go. These girls bashed her leaving messages on her myspace like F* You just F*ing go back to where you F*ing came from we don't want you here (but this wasn't all). This coming from supposedly sweet 13 yr old girls. After comforting the daughter, my first reaction was to call up the parents of the girls and share what they are doing. The daughter informs me that at least one of these little witches talks to her mom like that all the time. Excuse me?!? Ever hear of soap in the mouth? It works wonders. But I have been rethinking the "calling of the parents" - if these witches are doing this crap now - it will only get worse if I tell the parents.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not saying I have a perfectly innocent daughter that never says or does anything wrong, but as a Mom I will defend her to the end when she has been wronged. I know there are some battles that kids have to fight on their own, it is part of growing up - but you mess with my daughter you mess with me - you mess with one of us - you mess with all of us!

You can take the redneck out of the South but you can't take the South out of the Redneck!

It was truly a redneck weekend and I have to say that I just LOVE IT! This weekend was dedicated to my redneck roots!

Saturday night we honored the man from Kill Devils Hill, NC......the one...the only...Dennis Anderson original driver of GRAVEDIGGER!!

Yes, I took the kiddies to see Monster Jam! Even went to the "pit party" before the show. This is sort of a tradition for me and the kids. I have been going every year for about 5 years now. Actually I was quite impressed to see so many people there. As we were waiting for the show to begin, the man child was waving his skull and crossbones flag in the faces of those around us. And as I was trying to get him to calm down a bit, I noticed we were getting quite a bit of stares. It took me a moment to figure it out, and when I did, I really started having fun. They weren't noticing the man child, they were noticing our southern accents. So of course, I turned on the twang! Even called the man child "Tater" and every time I said it I made sure it was loud and twangy. I am quite good at this and had a blast doing it!

Sunday was dedicated to the religion that is Nascar and more specifically the Daytona 500. And if it wasn't good enough that nascar has returned, how did they start it off?....with BON JOVI!! I had the speakers turned up loud and I am sure my neighbors were wondering what the hell those rednecks that moved in are doing but I didn't care. But with the return of Nascar also comes the sadness of leaving Charleston. I miss my friends and neighbors. We would go over on Sunday afternoons and hang out in their garage (equipped with a nascar style bar complete with checkered flag tile in the back - its way cool) watch the race, have food and few drinks while the kids would run wild (cause that's what they do). I had to call them just to tell them even though I wasn't with them yesterday, I was thinking about them.

Stuff Portrait Friday.....what's under YOUR bed?

Finally getting my act together to play SPF. This week we have been asked to show what is .......

UNDER THE BED...

I have to admit the days of stuffing junk under the bed are gone. What you see here is the telephone wire (in the back) and the cord for the electric blanket (cause its freakin cold here).

MY STEREO....

Yes, its very 90's (and I think its that old) but check out that 60 CD player. Its great - except when you spend half an hour trying to figure out what slot your favorite Bon Jovi CD is in.

My Pots and Pans....

I love my set of pots and pans

Shhhh....don't talk...My shows are on....

I hate to admit it but I am already addicted to yet another season of Survivor and I already have my favorites. And I love that it is followed by CSI (the original Vegas version). I have to say that Thursday night is definately my favorite night of television. One thing I can say that is "OK" about the frozen wasteland that is MN, is that all my shows come on earlier and I don't fall asleep at the end of my shows.

So tonight I am going to be making my Fabulous hot wings (made with Texas Pete - couldn't wait for the weekend), grabbing a Bud light, and watching my shows.

Somethings you just can't live without!

You never really appreciate the little things until you don't have them anymore. Wonderful things like "Texas Pete" hot sauce, "Dukes" mayo, and "Merita" bread. So when I came back from my trip home to Charleston yesterday, my suitcase was filled with all those things you can't get up here in the frozen land that is MN. Now of course, bread doesn't travel well in a suitcase but 3 very LARGE bottles of Texas Pete does!!(and yes I am making some hot wings this weekend!) But my only southern friends will appreciate the little gold mine that I found today when going to the grocery store.....there it was hidden between the "off brands"....there it was that glorious product that can only truly be appreciated by those that have tasted this nectar of the gods....yes, my friends I found SUN DROP!!! Now if you have never been in the south the best way to describe what sun drop is would be to say it is kinda sorta like Mountain Dew ONLY BETTER! (even comparing it to Mountain Dew is just plain blasphemy). Yes, it was there in a twelve pack! And now, I sit here drinking my second can of SUN DROP (I refuse to ever call it POP).....and all I can say is AAHHHH!!
