Hot in the city

I think retirement is making me brain dead. Last night I was giddy about making my shrimp and sea scallop recipe that I had made a few weeks back. I was even excited about trying a few new twists in the orzo with spinich and tomato to jazz it up a bit (which really worked).

So picture this, I prep the scallops, peel the shrimp, prep the rub and get ready to sear it in the pan. All I can think is how yummy this is going to be and how I am getting hungrier by the second. I fry up the shrimp and put the scallops in the pan. I can't take it, I had to try just a little bit of the shrimp. I cut off a small piece (cause these are some jumbo shrimps) and pop it in my mouth - and then - well you know in cartoons where a character eats something hot and fire spews from their pie hole? Yeah, that was me. And ummm no it wasn't heat hot from the pan, it was spicy hot. Now I am thinking....."did I add too much crushed red pepper? I know I measured it precisely". Then I look again and I realize what I did. Have you ever noticed how similar paprika and cayenne look when they are in the cabinet? Especially if they are from the same brand and in the same bottle? So instead of adding PAPRIKA to the recipe I added CAYENNE! Along with the crushed red peppers.

Now, Mr. Cheeky really liked it this way and laughed that it wasn't that spicy but then again his taste buds are pretty much immune to anything mild to moderately spicy. After my first initial shock - it was edible for me - I just kept water by me. Teenage daughter even ate it but thought it was a tad bit on the spicy side too. Manchild - poor thing - wouldn't touch it (he will eat hot sauce on things but not this meal). Note to self: Next time you add paprika to something - double check the label.

Stranger, stranger, stranger, stranger

It's hot here at night, lonely, black and quiet
On a hot summer night
Don't be afraid of the world we made
On a hot summer night

'Cause when a long-legged lovely walks by
Yeah you can see the look in her eye
Then you know that it's

Hot in the city, hot in the city tonight, tonight
Hot in the city, hot in the city tonight, tonight

Stranger, stranger

For all the dreams and schemes,
people are as they seem
On a hot summer night
Don't be no fun, don't forget you're young
On a hot summer night

A sometime someone you're not
Don't wait to see what you got
'Cause you know that you're

Hot in the city, hot in the city tonight, tonight
Hot in the city, hot in the city tonight, tonight

We'll walk until my feet drop
I'm a train when I'm hateful
Yeah, lay right down now
And ride until your head breaks
I'm a-walkin' 'til my brain pops
I will move with the beat now
I'm a chain 'round an A-bomb
I'm a ribbon in the heat now
New York!

Hot in the city, hot in the city tonight, tonight
Hot in the city, hot in the city tonight, tonight

Hot in the city, hot in the city tonight, tonight
Hot in the city, hot in the city tonight, tonight
