Its Video Week
So teenage daughter and I were sitting in the den this weekend and were looking at videos on youtube and she came up with the idea that I should have a video week. I think this is a mighty fine idea. I will of course have a "regular" post (yeah, I remember what those are so just shut it I am trying to do better mmmmkay?) but then I am going to have a little video at the end for your enjoyment. It may be something funny or musical or just twisted....who knows and I have invited teenage daughter to guest post sometime this week.
BUT...before the video - let me give you a little weekend recap. Friday....I came home and took the manchild out on a date. We went for a pizza and a movie. The pizza was "eh" but the movie was "woohooo!" We went to see the Incredible Hulk and I LOVED IT! Much better than the first one and I loved the little cameo appearances and references through out. Reminded me of the days as a kid that I watched the TV show. Yes, if you haven't seen it you should. BUT you must see Iron Man first. See them in order people. That is all I can say.
Saturday was Soccer Jamboree time. The manchild had games at 8 and 10 and you know what....it was COLD....in late June.... almost JULY... I needed a sweatshirt. Yeah....ummm Al Gore needs a big ol pop in the mouth - global warming my big bootay! Just come up here - there is no global warming to be found. So the first game I was sitting there shivering because apparently I don't know how to look up the weather before I go anywhere....and was in shorts and a t-shirt (hey I thought it was gonna warm up). We are really close to the soccer fields (within walking distance from the house) so between games I came home and put on some clothes. I was still chilly though.
The rest of the afternoon I was just lazy. I was going to go out Saturday night but I am so tired these days. Physically...mentally...just exhausted. I need a vacation - oh wait! I am getting one soon Woot! So instead of going out I just went and got the fixins for some chicken nachos for me and the kids and just chilled on the sofa with an ice cold Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy.....Very Tasty!
Sunday - the big day. The new Guitar Hero! Woot!! So I got up early, had my coffee and did a quick "round" of the house (if you are new - doing a "round" means a quick clean) and then it was time to go out and purchase the latest and greatest. I played a song or two then teenage daughter took over. I then went downstairs to the....wait for it.....wait for it.....THE CRAFT ROOM!! Yes, I haven't been there in over a month but I had some mojo cookin and had to create. I had a good time doing it. Perhaps a few of you may be receiving my handy work in the mail this week. Unfortunately I am not sending out as many as I normally do....but if you don't get something this time you will get it later....I promise.
So....that's the weekend recap. And now....for your viewing enjoyment.....a little video...watch and sing along with me (uh huh uh huh)....turn it up loud now....

BUT....before I begin with the weekend update.....stop what you are doing....and wish this man right here.....see this one in the pic (the man not the goat)....
A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Yes, today is Mr. Cheeky's birthday! We love ya honey, and hope to make today very special for ya.
Now on to the update.
Friday, Mr. Cheeky came home, it was the start of the birthday weekend and it was wang and trivia night. I do so heart me some wangs and they did not disappoint. They did however, forget to bring me my little hamburger bites appetizer. It was ok - I didn't need the extra calories anyway. We got home and decided to watch the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Actually, the plan was to watch all the Indiana Jones movies in preparation for the new one coming out soon. At any rate, we didn't make it till the end of the movie. We all fell asleep (yes, we are really a bunch of party animals here at Chez Cheeky).
Saturday it was our usual, hockey practice, run errands, etc kind of day. I made some killer shrimp and scallops for dinner (and this time I didn't use cheyenne pepper instead of paprika - I read the bottle). It was FABULOUS!! Then it was time to play a little rock band and guitar hero before Mad TV came on. It was mostly me and Mr. Cheeky playing. Teenage daughter and her frient L came down for a few songs but that was about it.
Sunday, it was a lazy morning. Mr. Cheeky had to do a little work (which really stinks but at least he was home). He made his customary weekend breakfast of hashbrowns and bacon (YUM). I made brownies for Mr. Cheeky's b-day at his request and we kinda goofed around until it was time for manchild's hockey jamboree. Two and half hours of games and then it was trophy time. He also received a little extra gift from the high school hockey team coach for manchild's participation in carrying the flag for one of their games. It was a framed pic of the team and they all signed it. I thought that was pretty nice.
After the game we headed over to a local pizza joint for a little party. Next weekend is out last hockey weekend and its out of town and so they wanted to do a little something incase there are those (like us and others) that are not going to stay the night. We had a nice time.
When we got home we watched the last part of the race (man I love nascar) while we were playing a board game with manchild. Teenage daughter decided to sit this one out - so she got to fold laundry instead (what a trade off).
So that is what happened in our neck of the woods....what did you do?
We spent the weekend purging and playing. We purged my office (since I am now in retirement) and made it more of a "family" office. We also cleaned out the closet in that room that sort had become "if you don't know where to put it - put it there" closet. What wasn't thrown out is being Craigslisted, sent to consignment or donated in some way. But its gone. We also purged the closet in the bedroom - lots of clothes being donated as well. I had a lot of office casual stuff that I haven't worn in years (since I worked from home) and I figure IF I ever work in an office again, then it will be time to update the wardrobe anyway so no need to have it there just for the sake of having it there. I got rid of about half of the contents of my closet.
For those of you anxiously awaiting the tales of meeting Hockey Boy....go back and read the comments from the last post. Teenage daughter had previously made plans and so meeting Hockey Boy had to wait. Anybody else think that one or both of them is perhaps slightly nervous about the first meeting???
The kids and I pooled our $$ and bought Rock Bank on Friday. We have been playing it ever since. The guitar part is very similar to Guitar Hero. It took me a while to learn the drums (still can't say that I am great yet - mediocre is more the word but give me time - I will get there). Then, there is the mic. So, last night, Mr. Cheeky and teenage daughter are playing and call for me to join. Teenage daughter is singing, Mr. Cheeky on guitar, me on the drums (just call me Phil Collins). Then there was a switch up and I was was singing. We took turns picking songs (and yes there is some Bon Jovi on there - Woot!) and teenage daughter picked some Red Hot Chili Peppers. I was hesitant but sang it anyway. I had the best score - 98%! Mr. Cheeky says (and I quote) "I think we have found our singer!"
Later in the evening, we decided to watch the fifth installment of Harry Potter. I was on one end of the sofa with my legs across Mr. Cheeky and manchild on the other end. Manchild out of the blue says "gimme your foot mom" and then proceeds to massage my foot as we watch the movie. Now keep in mind that I have not had a pedicure since July when Ted decided to take up residence. As a matter of fact there is still a mark on my heel - I think Ted carved his name in there - you know something like, "Ted was here but now he's gone he left his name to carry on" or perhaps maybe "My name is Ted...and one day - I'll be dead yo yo yo (I wanna be a cowboy and you can be my cowgirl....oh sorry - I got distracted there). Where was I, oh yeah, the foot rub, a little while later, manchild left the room and came back and then says, "gimme that foot I was just rubbing", I lifted my foot and he proceeded to rub it again, WITH LOTION! Ummmm you think he is trying to tell me its time for a pedicure?
So tonight is New Year's Eve and we are celebrating in usual Cheeky style - we'll be rocking! But this time with an audience. We are headed across the street to the neighbors for a little Rock Band/Guitar Hero party.
Hope ya'll have a safe and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Cheeky - who is gonna go practice singing for tonight - A little Soundgarden....
In my eyes Indisposed In disguise As no one knows Hides the face Lies the snake The sun In my disgrace Boiling heat Summer stench neath the black The sky looks dead Call my name Through the cream And Ill hear you Scream again
Black hole sun Wont you come And wash away the rain Black hole sun Wont you come Wont you come
Stuttering Cold and damp Steal the warm wind Tired friend Times are gone For honest men And sometimes Far too long For snakes In my shoes A walking sleep And my youth I pray to keep Heaven send Hell away No one sings Like you Anymore
Hang my head Drown my fear Till you all just Disappear
Black hole sun Wont you come Black hole sun Wont you come Wont you come
Well I hope you have something to drink - ya'll might be here a while....have lots to tell.
Bunco Friday night. Had a blast. I met an entirely new set of neighbors. I knew 2 already and had spoken to a third but that was it. There were 17 ladies there and only 3 were not from the neighborhood. All but two of us were newbies to the game. After the first game (we played 4) everyone was comfortable with the game so then the chattiness began. So far so good with these ladies. I was very pleased that the conversations were not "about anyone" they were just general conversations which was nice. I did learn that one neighbor is preggers (she was the one I have spoken to but didn't really know prior to this shindig) and due in May (wait or was it March can't remember - its an M month give me that much credit mmmkay?). The food was great. We all brought an appetiser. And it was BYOB. I am really glad that I went. We are going to do this the first Friday of every month so the next one will be Jan. 4th.
Saturday:
We skipped the usual weekend breakfast. Oh we ate, but I didn't want much because my tummy was hurting (guess I need to start taking Prilosec again and no I wasn't hungover - geesh the things ya'll think about me....hehe) AND everyone was up before me. Man child had hockey practice and I went out to get the last 2 gift cards I needed before sending off my package to NC. It was a nightmare. Crowded. People being rude. I tried to be extra nice to the sales people and cashiers cause you could just see in their faces they were about to explode.
Got home and had our honkers for dinner. THEN it was off to a night of fun and games and it was ADULTS ONLY! Mr. Cheeky is on the Asian business counsel at work. No, he is not Asian. At any rate, he has met some really nice people and one of them invited us to her house for her annual game party. We played Wii, Guitar Hero, DDR and others. There was tons of food and drink, 70+ people, and no kids to nag. Mr. Cheeky and I really showed them all how to play Guitar Hero - they were all fairly new to it I guess so when we started out on something other than "easy" they just thought we were the bomb - and you know what? We were!! We really ARE Guitar Heroes! Got home just after 11.
Sunday: Up early again because Manchild had a hockey game at 7:15. They tied. They all played really well. I am glad to see the teams being really balanced as far as skill level is concerned. No one out doing the others or being "puck hogs". Makes for a much more enjoyable game to watch when they are evenly matched.
I also learned that Manchild will be carrying the American Flag for the highschool hockey game on Dec. 20th! He will be all dressed in his gear and skate around the rink with the flag. Teenage daughter is worried he will fall - oh she is not worried for him, but for HER! cause they will announce his name on the speaker when he comes out. (I think that's funny).
Later that morning we got home manchild chose the winner for the contest (Congrats Moi), Teenage daughter worked on homework, Mr. Cheeky slept, and I played in my craft room doing some last minute cards. Had some lunch and after a game of Warcraft Mr. Cheeky went ice fishing while I went back to the craft room.
We had Roasted Chicken Parmesean for dinner - oh my it was really really good and you know what - all I did was cook it. I got it from the deli at Costco! YUM! I wouldn't want it all the time but it was a nice treat when you don't feel like cooking (and its something different than Pizza).
Well yet another busy but uneventful weekend at Chez Cheeky!
Friday night it was Pizza night (so much for watching what I eat). Then it was Guitar Hero. Mr. Cheeky and I set some all time high scores on there - yeah we were jammin! We kept giving each other high fives like we were really something....hilarious!
Saturday morning quick clean around (read clean up blood spots from my heel...ugh - going to the doc on Tuesday). After lunch we decided that we were going to head down south with the kids to an orchard and pumpkin patch and be silly and get lost in a corn maze. Well we almost made it. Almost. About 5 miles away traffic pretty much came to a stop. It took another hour to go about 3 miles. We got irritated and said - well crap on this. Asked the kids what they wanted to do and did a "U-ey". So we headed to Costco and spent more moolah. Then home for dinner. Again that evening we didn't do too much. I found a treadmill on Craigslist and made an offer - still waiting to see if she is going to accept.
Sunday morning. Woke up from yet another strange dream. In this dream Richie Sambora and I become BFF's and we dis Jon. Don't ask me how I come up with stuff. I don't know. Mr. Cheeky and man child went four wheeling up north. Teenage daughter went shopping with her friends and I played in my room and watched movies. It was a great day. I have lots of samples ready to send to Shell. Just have to do one more thing before sending them. I finished off all my Halloween cards and I want to mail them now but it is a little early (hehe) so since I have a little extra time I think I will do a Turkey day/Fall card. I might head out Monday afternoon to find a design. While card making I watched two movies - one really good one not so good. The not so good one was Behind the Mask - sort of a parody of a serial killer. One of the tag lines was Michael Myers needed someone to look up to. I thought it had potential (since I am a fan of Michael, Freddy, Jason and the bunch). No, it was stupid. But I did invest my time for the first half so I felt obligated to see it through. The second movie - Fracture - was GREAT! I lurve me some Sir Anthony Hopkins and he did me proud in this movie. I watched the alternate endings too but I like the one they chose for the movie.
Sunday night - we had Portobello stuffed chicken breasts and oh my they were incredible! Along with some of my tater salad that everyone in the family loves so I love to make it cause it makes them happy (awww isn't that a disgustingly sweet sentiment? But its true). Then it was premier time for Family Guy....ummmm I fell asleep. I didn't see the whole thing. I am ashamed....ashamed I tell you...but I did sleep really good.
Cheeky - who would sing you a song but just heard the man child horking in the bathroom and yeah - it doesn't sound good - so no time for singing now....If you wanna sing one I will do the back up.....
It was a pretty uneventful weekend around Chez Cheeky. Friday night it was time for a little b-dubs and trivia! I kicked bootay on 2 of the 3 games. The last game was way out there. I held my own but that is about all I can say about that. Came home and it was still early so it was time for a little Guitar Hero. We hadn't played in a while so I was afraid I was really going to be bad but I guess I channeling my inner Jimmy Hendrix because we had some high score.
Saturday. Mr. Cheeky made some really AWESOME hash browns for breakfast. They weren't Waffle House good but they were a really close second. We sorta laid around for the morning and watched some Harry Potter. Then we decided we really needed to quit being so lazy so we got up, grabbed the kids and headed out. The first stop was to the local highschool where they were having a little craft show. It wasn't bad. I got 2 hanging towels from the washcloth granny (I am not being mean, this is what she called herself). Then off the the little festival our town was having. We were there about 30 minutes looking at all the old cars at the car show part of the festival and decided it was way too cold and windy. So we headed home to get properly dressed (it was like 5 mins from the house) and then went back. We saw all the booths and played in the petting zoo part.
We ate junk. Fried cheese curds and a massive serving of nachos. Then walked around a bit more. It was getting toward the end and the VFW Auxillary was having a fun little bingo game. Twenty five cents a card so Mr. Cheeky and I decided to play while the kids did the rides and kiddie events. Well, first game was a bust but then...I won the next 3 games in a row. No kidding. AND I had some massive jackpots ($2.25, 1.75. and 1.75) that allowed us to keep playing until it was time for them to pack up. Yeah, I know, we get excited about stuff like that. Came home and ......hung up my peg board in my craft room. Now this really made me happy cause now I can play with it and decorate it up!
Sunday. We were up early. Mr. Cheeky made breakfast again (he does this pretty much every weekend) and we were headed to Costco! After we got back it was time to pack him up for his trip this week. Got him all packed and then flipped between football and the race until it was time from him to go. After he left, I went straight downstairs into my craft room and started playing with my peg board and working on cards. I was there for hours and didn't even know it but I did get a lot done. I also started watching the first season of Weeds. I saw it in the store the other day and thought since there was such a buzz about it, I would get it to watch while I play. Yeah, I like this show. I made it through the first half of the first season. Yeah, I really like this show. It is really gonna stink when I get all of them watched and then can't watch it weekly (I get HBO not Showtime but I am thinking of changing this). After playing then I fed the man child (teenage daughter had already fended for herself) and then I sat and worked on my cards some more (I brought a project up stairs) and watched Anchorman. I loves me some Ron Burgandy, yes I do!
That's it - thats my weekend update. Its going to be a busy week here at Chez Cheeky with Mr. Cheeky being absent so I am glad it wasn't a stressful weekend.
Cheeky - who is singing a song inspired by Ron........

Friday night. The teenage daughter headed down to the Twins game with her friend and her friend's family. So the man child, Mr. Cheeky and I headed on down to B-dubs for some wings and trivia. I wasn't really into the trivia this time around becuse they were playing the X-games on the big screen (before the Twins game came on)and man child was all into it - yeah, that's it, it was HIM that was into it. No not me. Not at all. Came home with full bellies and proceeded to play Guitar Hero until after midnight. How is it that time flies when you are rockin'?
Saturday - slept in. It was a cool and overcast day. Little drizzley. Goofed around the house in the morning and then went to scout out a new craft store. OMG....I could have droped a small fortune in this store. I was good. I contained myself. I only bought a few things. I can't say that I will be able to do that in the future. (Oh and Shell honey - you HAVE to come here now - the sister store was a BEAD store...you HAVE to come now....HAVE TO...GOT IT? Good....). After I got home, I went down in my room to play a little and created some really cute cards ya'll. Mr. Cheeky and the man child scouted out a new fishing spot and the teenage daughter and her friend went babysitting. That evening, we just whipped up a little something light for dinner and watched The Omen on HBO (or was it Cinemax? I dunno - we just watched it). Then it was round two of Guitar Hero! Yep, once again played until Mad TV came on. Watched that and then it was off to snoozeville.
Sunday - slept in again. Had a lazy morning. It was still cool and overcast so I just snuggled up under a blanket and watched My Cousin Vinny. I *heart* this movie. I haven't seen it all the way through in a while. Joe Pesci really does a great job and makes me giggle. Headed out to the local chain craft store to get my free goodies (from the newsletter) then headed home. Teenage daughter and her friend (yes the same one - you know "L" my MN adopted daughter) went to "L"'s church to work the fund raiser. Man child and Mr. Cheeky went fishing again and I played down stairs while watching Family Guy on DVD. Dinner was quick and easy again. Hotdogs! Yeah not very nutritiuos but oh so yummy!
So it was sort of a cool, lazy, do what you want to kind of weekend. I did notice a few things that need to be changed however - behaviors that need just a little bit of modificaiton that will start this week. Nothing major, just have given them a little too much rope if you know what I mean, time to reel them back in before they get too far out of control ya know?
